How long have you been rock climbing?

Since 2005

Where do you call home?

Brisbane, Queensland, Australia… and wherever there is an amazing rock face to climb.

Favourite event or place to practice?

My favourite event or competition so far was the Open Lead Climbing World Cup held in Chamonix, France. There are so many amazing and unique climbing areas around the world though, I couldn’t possibly choose a favourite one.

What do you like best about climbing?

The adventure, the challenge, the fun, the outdoors and the awesome people.

What is the strangest thing that has happened to you while doing your sport?

After an unexpectedly long day on a multi-pitch route in Getu China, my friends and I got down off the cliff after dark and the national park we were in was closed. We didn’t realise the Chinese workers had let their dogs off to guard the area overnight and were horrified to find them growling and barking at us when we got down in the darkness. We had to bush-bash our way back down the mountain armed with bamboo sticks to escape the dogs. It was horribly scary at the time, but we made it back safely and it became another epic memory.

Do you have a claim to fame?

I’m reluctant to say that I was known as the ‘Houdini’ toddler because when I was 2 years old, I scaled the electrified fence at my family home and ran off with my German Shepherd dog at night in Winter. I was found 5 hours later by one of the first ever rescue helicopters with infrared sensors. The whole event was covered by National and International news.

Any notable recent results?

I have had much athletic experience growing up and especially over the last 10 years. I have been accepted as an athlete into the Queensland Academy of Sport and we are working together to further develop my athletic performance. I have been Australian National Champion multiple years and held the Oceanic Lead Champion title for 6 years from 2013 till current. One of my biggest achievements was climbing a grade 30 (8a+) outdoors in China. Another great achievement was competing as 1 of 12 athletes in the World Games in Poland last year. I am proud to continuously represent Australia in Lead, Bouldering and Speed at multiple World Cups and World Championships each year.

Anything else we should know about you or your sport?

I’ve been climbing since I was 13 and competing in climbing since I was 14. I love every aspect of climbing and finding new ways to challenge myself with different places, harder climbs, etc. Travelling to China for 2 months of outdoor climbing on natural rock which was an incredible experience. I train very hard, pushing my body to its limits every single day. I train 5-6 days a week for 1-2 hours specifically for climbing and climbing strength-based activities. I also do aerobic cross-training such as running and bike riding 7 days a week to keep up my fitness level. I love pushing my limits outdoors on natural rock and indoors for training and competitions.
